Years of History

Take a Look Inside…

With perfectly proportioned living and dining rooms, wood burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen and four comfortable bedrooms, each with its own unique decorative theme, you will feel instantly relaxed when you walk through the front door of Salvin House.

The Dining Area

With its Pugin Red wall and fireplace, we wanted to make a bold statement in this room. We’ve also gone for a more modern furniture style to contrast with the Georgian features. The dining table can seat up to eight people and there’s a comfy armchair in the corner for anyone who wants to relax in their own space.

The Living Area

Our elegant living room includes built-in shelving either side of an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. Curl up on the Chesterfield sofa to enjoy the selection of books, play a boardgame, do a jigsaw, or watch Sky TV on the 50″ UHD screen.

The Bedrooms

Overlooking the rear garden, the blue bedroom features a rustic stone feature wall, original Georgian fireplace, built-in wardrobes and plenty of storage. The bed in this room is a Kingsize Double with Sealy Posturepedic pillow top mattress.

The Bathrooms

With a large double-ended bath that’s big enough for two, our master bathroom – there’s also a shower room and WC downstairs – is perfect for relaxing. We also have an invigorating shower over the bath and, thanks to our top of the range combi boiler, we guarantee you will never run out of hot water.

Woodfired Pizza

New for Summer 2022, we’re bringing all our guests a ‘pizza’ the action with a brand new wood-fired pizza oven at Salvin House Alston. We’re all fired up about out new pizza oven, and we know you will be too!

Lovely house, well equipped and maintained We have a great stay at Salvin House. The property is really nicely decorated, well equipped, clean and well maintained. All the beds were really comfy and plenty of garden furniture meant our group of 8 could eat outside in the good weather and then relax in the garden during the evening. The wood fire pizza oven made our evening a real event. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it. It is as nice as it looks in the pictures.

CHRISTMAS STAY We stayed over the Christmas period 2022 We found this property charming and in a great location. Everything was of high quality, all the facilities and kitchen equipment was of great quality. Fab kitchen and huge range cooker to make Christmas dinner. Communication with Rob was great and he ensured we had logs and everything we needed for our stay. The Christmas decorations were a lovely touch which added to the charm. Would love to stay again in summer to make the most of the beautiful garden. Only slight criticism is I would have liked warmer duvets in the twin room as the sash windows can be drafty in winter. Other than that it was a perfect stay and we enjoyed it very much. Would definitely book again. Thanks Rob

SavinHouse Alston Found this house to be of exceptional quality. We wanted a base to discover Hadrians wall and found this, although tucked away a bit in the Cumbrian hills to be an excellent starting place. The house passed all expectations and was very comfortable. Alexa hwlped with controlling the lighting an music. Kitchen very well equipped and thoughtful things like milk in the fridge and condiments avilable. Plus the bathroom supplies. The garden terraces very well thouhgt out. The house is very much in keeping with the town but modernised thoughtfully. We had anamzing time exploring the town and surrounding areas as well as travelling to Alnick and Banburgh. Thank you Rob and team for an excetioal house. Home from home

Beautiful stay This was our first time away for New Year and we were a group of 4 adults and 4 kids (ages 9, 8 and two 5 year olds) and we are so pleased we choose Savlin House. The decorations were lovely in the house. The kitchen had everything required to cook a full Sunday roast on New Year’s Day. Access to sky q etc really made you feel like you were at home whilst being away, which was lovely after being out of the house all day and wanting to relax on an evening. The pub directly across the road is so friendly. We visited Lowther Castle one day and if you are going with kids I would really recommend visiting here. Parking is a bit tricky down the side lane of the house and you do really need to follow the owners instructions for parking here if you have more than one car parking at the house. The owner was really responsive with any questions we had. The spar is 1 minute away and it is very well stocked. If you have forgotten anything I would think they would have it. Great stay and would recommend. Beautiful house in a beautiful park of the country.

A perfect festive getaway With 6 adults and respective pets finding a house that can accommodate us for Christmas is always a challenge. Not anymore as Salvin House exceeded all our expectations. It's not often that the reality matches up to the images but here it does, and more. Beautifully decorated for Christmas with every detail thought through. A fully stocked kitchen meant everything was available for the chaos of the season with the living spaces offering the perfect retreat. The comfiest beds we've slept in and the joy of coming back after a lengthy walk to the pub (across the road!) to be greeted by a log fire and eveyy amenity catered for including an abundance of smart technology really elevated our stay. Thank you to the owner for being available for last minute questions. We'll be back!

Excellent place to stay We had a wonderfully comfortable stay at Salvin House in Alston. Alston is a lovely little market village with cafes and pubs and a number of shops, in the Pennine AONB. The landscapes around the area are spectacular and perfect for walking and biking. Salvin house is a surprisingly large, very clean and beautifully renovated house, a two min walk from the centre of Alston. Across the road there is a field with river, great for a quick morning walk with the dog or kids, or both. The beds are remarkable for a holiday let - very comfortable indeed. Large kitchen. I would very much recommend a stay at Salvin House.

Excellent accomodation Salvin House is a beautiful cottage with all the essentials. clean and very tastefully decorated. There are lots of shops nearby. Just opposite to the accomodations there is a walking track and a field. The closest lake Ullswater, is about on 40 minutes drive. Rob, the owner is always available via phone, if any assistance required.

Great place for a weekend getaway in Alston. We found Salvin House through a mutual friend of the owners who were looking for someone to give the new property a dry run. The house has a great atmosphere, with lots of character and we loved the decorative touches throughout, especially the living room. Everywhere was very clean and my wife loved the beds. It's a great location on the main road through the bottom of Alston, with a pub right across the road and the Spar along the road, yet the South Tyne Trail is right on the doorstep. The biscuits were a nice touch when we arrived, The garden wasn't quite finished when we went, but it looks like it's going to be very nice, and we'll definitely go back again,
